Inland Valley Swamp (IVS) Training

More than 200 #smallholder farmers from 75 farmer groups across Moyamba, Bo, and Kenema districts recently participated in a week-long training on Inland Valley Swamp (IVS) Development and Management. The programme was organized by Solidaridad West Africa under the Resilient Food and Nutrition Security (RFaNS) project, with support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Participants strengthened their knowledge in climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, and best practices in IVS development and management.

According to Aminata Bah, Senior Programmes Officer at Solidaridad in Sierra Leone and Project Lead, the training focused on empowering #women #farmer groups to adopt #sustainable rice production techniques through the effective use of Inland Valley Swamps.

Kadijatu Koroma, District Crops Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Bo district, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that Inland Valley Swamp rice production has strong potential to increase yields compared to upland farming methods and aligns with Sierra Leone’s Feed Salone drive.

Through the RFaNS project, Solidaridad continues to support stronger local #rice production systems and improve food and nutrition security in Sierra Leone.
