Strengthening Inclusion Within Ghana’s Climate and Forest Landscape Agenda
The EnABLE Ghana Programme was established to address inequalities in access to climate-related opportunities and benefits within Ghana’s emission reduction and forest governance initiatives.
Despite the important role vulnerable groups play in sustainable agriculture and forest conservation, many women, youth, migrant farmers, and persons with disabilities remain underserved in climate financing systems, community governance structures, and benefit-sharing mechanisms. EnABLE Ghana was designed to bridge this gap.
Implemented by Solidaridad West Africa and Tropenbos Ghana, the programme promotes inclusive participation in the Ghana Cocoa Forest REDD+ Programme (GCFRP) while supporting sustainable livelihoods, environmental stewardship, and climate resilience. The programme combines community engagement, institutional collaboration, stakeholder participation, and evidence-based implementation approaches to ensure that climate action benefits reach the people who need them most.
Our Interventions
Intervention 1
Community Entry and Sensitization
We engage communities through sensitization sessions, stakeholder meetings, and dialogue platforms that build awareness around sustainable land-use practices, REDD+ initiatives, and equitable benefit sharing.
These engagements strengthen local ownership, trust, and participation in programme implementation.
Intervention 2
Community Profiling and Validation
EnABLE Ghana conducts comprehensive community selection, profiling, and validation exercises to identify communities best positioned to participate in sustainable landscape interventions.
This process helps assess land-use dynamics, forest pressure drivers, governance structures, and local priorities while ensuring that underserved communities are not excluded.
Intervention 3
Inclusive Benefit Sharing
The programme supports equitable systems that improve access to both carbon and non-carbon benefits for women, youth, migrant farmers, and persons with disabilities.
Non-carbon benefits may include:
- Skills development
- Community empowerment
- Institutional strengthening
- Livelihood opportunities
- Access to training and information
- Participation in governance structures
Intervention 4
Sustainable Landscape Management
We promote climate-smart cocoa production, sustainable farming systems, agroforestry practices, and forest conservation approaches that reduce environmental degradation.
These interventions support healthier ecosystems while strengthening productivity and long-term community resilience.

TROPENBOS GHANA
Tropenbos Ghana is a non-profit organisation and member of the Tropenbos International Network dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management, climate resilience and inclusive rural development. Since 2001, the organisation has worked with communities, government, civil society and the private sector to improve forest governance, support sustainable livelihoods, generate evidence for policy and practice, and conserve Ghana's forest landscapes for future generations.

Why Inclusive Climate Action Matters
